World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items can be used to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may raise an item's Mark level or Rarity and boost additional stats.
Upgrades to gear in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests Each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a specific amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's basic stats increases as it is upgraded. The value is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive, dependent on the upgrader and what kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is due to the sheer number of perks that need to be changed in order to upgrade an item.
Item level is a commonly used measure of power, and is visible on all tooltips for items. It can also be used to determine a gating condition when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is restricted to a lower level). Players can see their average level of item on their character sheet.
When deciding to purchase or sell gear players can look at the levels of the item. More hints 's a measure of the item's condition and its quality. The level of the item can be used to evaluate items when evaluating the inventory of a vendor.
The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including the ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.
There are several theories on how the calculation of the item's level is carried out. One theory suggests that the level of an item is calculated using a formula that calculates the value of the stats of an item really are. It takes into consideration that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in sockets increase the value of the item. This could result in an item's ilvl which is calculated and is usually very close to Blizzard's actual item level.
However, this is not the only factor that can affect an item's ilvl because the level of the region the item dropped in can change the value of its stats, such as by adding a level to its crit rating or haste rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher ilvl than those from lower-level instances.
Item Stats
Item stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game makes use of them in many ways to encourage players to not restrict themselves to a particular weapon and to encourage players to explore other weapons. The base stats on a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat modification that are in turn boosted by the player's level.
Item upgrades add to that by boosting certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines the upgrade cost. For instance, a gray or white item can only be upgraded once, while items with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.
Another method of altering the stats of an item is through affixes. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can be used to provide items with extra damage, special abilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs) or to make them unique by putting a name on them.
Presently, all affixes are able to be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button using the arrows that circle. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold and items which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other rerolling options.
In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which of the available stats to be kept on an item after it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges of an item are determined by the level of the item, however every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within that range, unless it's a unique item or an item that is a God roll from a boss of a raid.
This is another aspect that could be altered by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or choosing which stats to increase. However, as with the base equipment, this would have to be done on a per-item basis and the item compare interface will not show all the stats that could be that were gained or lost at the same time.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player can increase the chance of finding items as well as the properties spawned by loot and the strength of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives players the chance to acquire better equipment in earlier waves and is thus more beneficial in early game runs than later ones since most players prefer higher weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.
In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chance of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading, which increases with each level and can be further increased by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields and weapons can spawn or be crafted using the Luck property, which has a default value of 40. These items can be improved with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) for a further +40 luck or to boost an item's existing Luck up to 140.
Moreover there are certain items, such as the Hollow weapon that is infused with hollow, can be equipped to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items can be purchased in the shops or made by using the appropriate ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades work. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to boost their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.
When you upgrade an item, the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limitations to how much the success rates can be improved and the chance of a failed upgrade cannot be greater than 100%..
The luck of an item can also influence the success of an upgrade. Every item has an overall success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.
The upgrade overlays for items are rendered above the items in the inventory. This can block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
